Humanitarian response
Despite these challenges, HEKS/EPER continues to work tirelessly for people in need. HEKS/EPER has a country office in Jerusalem and has been working in the Gaza Strip since 2006, which is why it was able to launch its first emergency aid measures quickly after the outbreak of hostilities.
In the southern Gaza Strip, HEKS/EPER has been supporting the displaced civilian population since the beginning of the war with clay ovens for baking bread, water, hygiene kits, cash assistance, a hotline for psychosocial and medical counselling and psychological support for traumatised people.
Currently, vulnerable families are receiving shelter materials such as tarpaulins and ropes to build temporary shelters or improve existing ones. They are also receiving mattresses, blankets and cash assistance.
Our staff in Gaza work in extremely difficult conditions. They have been displaced several times and have just had to move to another office. Projects are adapted quickly and flexibly to the ever-changing situation and needs.
